Tishrey, the first month of the Hebrew calendar was about charging our energy for the whole year, with a lot of holidays and traditional celebrations.
Then the second month of the year, Heshvan, was about going down the road, with big emotional inner work with the Scorpio sign related, and the Great Flood, a month under the element of water and purification, very intense.
And now, the third month of the year, Kislev, just started! The first day of the month of Kislev is when, after the great flood, the rainbow is created, reminding the alliance with the humans that Hachem won't destroy the world again. It brings us for this month an aspect of faith and responsibility: all this month is about our personal purpose.
And that can seem paradoxal as it is the time of the year where things slow down, animals hibernate, nature seems dead, as if nothing was happening. Actually this moment is a vital time, the roots are consolidating, as we do within our personal development, the roots of our faith. In Kabbalah, each month of the year correspond to a senses, but as there is more months than 5 senses, it is not just about them. If last month was about smell (see last post to learn more), this month is about sleep. The sens of sleep in all its symbolism, and even more the one of dreaming. A good inner work is to work on remembering our dream (see last post about dreams), and also for our personal purpose work, ask ourselves:
What are my dreams?
Dreams from childhood, dreams from now... what ever comes up to your mind, without judgment nor expectation, without intellectualizing, just observe what comes up and how it makes you feel.
So, to consolidate our faith and take the responsibility of our personal purpose, this month Astrology and Kabbalah get along on one key action:
Taking care of our Inner Fire.
Heshvan was about water, Kislev is about fire.
We have the fire symbolism through the Hanukkah holiday, lighting the Hanukiah candlestick with 8 lights during 8 days, a fire that has no use and that we need only to observe, reprensenting the Source that animates the entire universe, and by that the miracle and the power of our faith, which can go beyond the limits of the physical world for the one that wishes to see(7 being the number of the limited physical world- 7 musical notes, days of the weeks, colors of the rainbow, chakras... and we overcome the 7 to achieve the 8 symbol of the infinite, you cans also see it from its shape in mathematics ♾),and which allows us to bring light into the darkness.
Sagittarius, the sign of this month, is a fire element sign, symbolizing the expansion, the growth, the freedom, the explorer. But as we are cocooning during this cold winter time, this inner fire invite us to get out of our comfort zone like the Sagittarius explorer. That's the paradoxe of this month, that is where the real work is.
But no worries, we have some help from the magical Hebrew letters Samech ס and Guimel ג! Indeed, in Kabbalah (Sefer Yetsira), the world was created through 22 frequencies, which can be understood through the 22 Hebrew letters. Each month has 2 related frequencies, 2 Hebrew letters empowering us if we let them. For this month, let's just say that this circle shaped letter Samech will support us in getting out of the comfort zone by recovering from mistakes, not to be afraid from falling as this is how we grow and learn "סומך נפילות" - Supporting / trusting the falling. And the Guimel, is like the Sagittarius sign, giving us power and abundance, and both being related to the Jupiter planet, the largest one of our solar system, supporting once again this idea of expansion, of growth, and of desire to learn!
It's interesting to see how astrology and Hebrew months are related. Here's another one: Sagittarius in Hebrew is קשת. Those three letters are consonants, there are no vowels as in Hebrew the letters are physical, like dead, and it is when you pronounce them through the breathe that you give them life. Those 3 letters can be pronounced in 2 ways. Kashat - means Sagittarius / the archer (interesting symbol of the archer and about setting intentions). But also Keshet - means the rainbow, which is the symbol of the first day of Kislev, the alliance, our responsibility about the earth and our purpose.
Kislev, from its pronunciation sound, can be understood that way: kis - pocket / Lev - heart = The pocket of our heart!
It is a poetic invitation to hold our Heart into our hands. The heart can be this inner fire we talked about. In the chakras system, the heart chakras is green with the symbol of two triangles like the David start symbolizing "as above so below", the green symbolizing the color of truth (French vert - veritas or Spanish verde - verdad) and the heart the unconditional love, it is about owning our truth, which is love, which is that all is one (we find Love אהבה and One אחד have the same numeric value in Kabbalistic guematria which is 13).
The pocket of our heart can also be the pericardium, which is considered as an organ in traditional Chinese medicine, and called "the heart protector" or "emotional protector", imposing our limits and at the same time still opening our hearts.
So Kislev is about our responsibility towards ourselves and the world around us, getting out of our comfort zones trying things and opening our hearts, having faith, using our inner fire to explore like a Sagittarius, physically sleeping good, and listening to our dreams! But more importantly it is about seeing the miracles.
Questions to self:
What is holding me back from the life I want to live? What are my dreams?
I also invite you to :
Mediate on the Hebrew letters ס - ג, on your faith, on fire, on the miracle of life.
Journal about you purpose.
Happy Kislev!
